Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto.
"It's as if they've taken a peep into the deepest recesses of my heart and figured out what I want before I even realize it myself. Story of my life."
'Sup, bookworms. Just a couple things before start with my review.
My review for the first book, Dial A for Aunties, is also here and you can read it to get a little bit of context. Aaaaaaand, if you haven't read the book and don't want any spoilers, don't read further, it may or not may contain spoilers. I try to restrain myself, but I just can't. It's in me to do so, lmao, sorry.
Jesse Q Sutanto had no right to make me laugh my ass off and howl of laugh at 3 a.m. But she did it anyway. I don't know if it was really that funny or my humor is broken. I just know that I laughed until I was crying and that I enjoyed this book so much, just as the first one.
In Four Aunties and a Wedding, Meddy is getting married! She's been in a lot of weddings, but now she's the bride and is excited and also terrified because she wants her big day to be memorable and wonderful.
Meddy hires these family who look like hers to set up everything for her wedding, but little does she know that Staphanie and her family are not good people.
The premise for this book was: wedding + Komodo dragons + aND MAFIA!
I was so excited for this book because I really enjoyed the first one. And it didn't disappoint.
It was funny, emotional and lighthearted. It wasn't just a wedding and a mystery. It was about family and how far are they willing to go or do just to save you... And at the end, you got me crying over that.
I loved how Jesse said at the beginning of the book that she didn't want make it look like a stereotype, just for the way that Meddy's aunties talked (we latinos have some similar way of talk and yell at the same time, and also laugh so scandalous... I do that, a lot, and I love us for it haha) and acted. I liked a lot the fact that her Ma and Aunties weren't changing anything of themselves just to fit in with the U.S people or the British ones, because they know where they're from and who they are.
The wedding was chaotic, funny and omg, sometimes I feel pity for Meddy. I mean, it was her wedding day with the love of her life and she spend it MIA most part of the time.
I did, however, didn't like the fact that Meddy kept lying over and over and over to Nathan, or how quick she "figured out" the things to the last few chapters of the book, or how the guests were ignored and faded away so quickly. I was confused over minor things, and deciding if I liked Annie or not... No, I don't.
I'm rating this book more over how much I laughed and enjoyed Meddy's aunties.
It's a fast paced book and a quick read (mind you, it took me so long because I'm struggling with uni, haha), something lighthearted and a sweet romance tho we didn't have a lot of it as on the first book.
Is still a rec for me if you want to read something fast paced, funny and sweet!
